Estella Lopez-Baum

Regional Trade Compliance Manager,

Expeditors International

 

Estella Lopez-Baum has over 30 years of experience in import and export compliance. As the Regional Trade Compliance Manager, Estella is responsible for administrating the compliance program of the Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Phoenix and San Diego branch offices of Expeditors.  She interfaces with officials of Customs & Border Protection, Food and Drug Administration, Department of Agriculture, Fish & Wildlife and other government agencies. Her compliance team serves as liaison to the various government agencies on regulatory operational matters.

 

Estella started her career in 1980 as an Import/Export Specialist for an electronics manufacturing company, where she supervised the import and export department. She moved on to be the Traffic Manager of a bicycle importer responsible for import, export and inventory control. After 16 years working for importers, she accepted the position of Senior Management Consultant for Tower Group International’s Professional Advisory Services (now Federal Trade Network) in 1996, where she provided consulting and advisory services to importers and exporters, and conducted numerous seminars on the Customs Modernization Act, internal assessments, NAFTA, importer’s compliance obligations and tariff re-engineering throughout the U.S.

 

In 1998, Estella joined Expeditors in the Los Angeles office as the Branch Customs Compliance Manager specializing in import and broker regulations. Since 2005, compliance in export and transportation including compliance with Export Administration Regulations, Foreign Trade Regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations, Transportation Security Administration and Dangerous Goods regulations has been added to her responsibilities as Branch Compliance Manager. Estella was appointed to the position of South West Regional Trade Compliance Manager in 2009.

 

Estella is a licensed Customs broker and holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts. She is a member of the Los Angeles Customs Brokers and Freight Forwarder Association’s seaport Customs committee that is responsible for improving broker and Customs relationship and for advocating better procedures of the entry process. From 2002 through 2010, she taught the 11-week Customs Regulations course every spring for the Foreign Trade Association of Southern California.
